On the 15th, it was learned from the Inner Mongolia Science and Technology Department that at the recently concluded National Natural Science Foundation of China's "Strategic Key Metal Supernormal Enrichment Metallogenic Dynamics" Major Research Program Integration Project 2023 Progress Report Meeting, Professor Li Guowu from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) officially announced the discovery of a new structure heavy rare earth mineral - Baiyun Yttrium Barium Mine in Baotou Baiyun Ebo.

The discovery of Baiyun yttrium barium deposit is one of the important innovative achievements of the "spatiotemporal evolution and resources of Baiyunebo super large REE Nb deposit" hosted by Li Xianhua, academician of the CAS Member. The discovery was jointly completed by China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Baotou Steel Group and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was fully approved by the International Mineralogical Association New Mineral Naming and Classification Committee, with approval number IMA 2023-084.

It is understood that Baiyun yttrium barium ore was discovered in the deep core ore of Baiyun Ebo. It is a new mineral with a completely new chemical composition and crystal structure, containing heavy rare earth elements such as yttrium, dysprosium, gadolinium, erbium, lutetium, etc. Academician Li Xianhua introduced, "Baiyun yttrium barium ore is a new mineral with a completely new structure and composition, and it is also the world's first discovered fluorocarbonate heavy rare earth new mineral."
